Penetrations and linear gap seals
Middlesex Firestopping is a third-party accredited contractor that specialises in providing passive fire protection to all buildings.
Passive Fire Protection is designed and built into the structure to provide stability and fire resistance to walls and floors to separate the building into areas of manageable risk – fire compartments. These areas are designed to restrict the growth and spread of fire allowing occupants to escape and offering time and protection for firefighters to get control of the fire. |
Service penetrations and firestop seals
Service penetration firestop seals are designed to maintain the fire resistance of a building element or section (like a wall or floor) where services such as cables, pipes or ventilation ducts pass through them.
Due to the vast number of different building materials and various services and the types of penetrations that can be required, there is a wide variety of solutions for sealing around these service penetrations across a wide range of manufacturers. The team at Middlesex Firestopping can ensure your building if fire compliant in line with the current fire safety regulations. |
Intumescent materials
One of the challenges with sealing around service penetrations is that all materials will react to fire in a different manner. For example, a combustible pipe will melt in the event of a fire, this results in large gaps within the fire compartment that must be closed immediately. For this type of application, expanding intumescent materials are usually a very effective solution. The intumescent material will expand during a fire as the temperature rises, as it expands, it fills the gaps and prevents the flow of air and smoke to pass through to the adjoining area.
Specialist seals and joints
While insulation can deliver fire protection to wall and ceiling construction, there are more detailed areas such as compartment junctions and movement joints which need specialist treatment to ensure the building will perform under fire conditions. At Middlesex Firestopping we are specialised in using a range of fire stopping products and manufacturers which prevent the passage of fire and smoke through junctions and joints. These A1 non-combustible solutions will not burn when exposed to fire, delivering the highest possible protection.
Manufacturer relationships
Middlesex Firestopping has developed exceptional relationships with manufacturer’s Rockwool, Tremco-illbruck (Firetherm) and Protecta, between these three leading firestopping manufacturer’s we can ensure that any firestop solution is possible with tested data and criteria to back up the installation and give peace of mind to our clients that their building is fire safe.
